|REconomy:|N Cayman Islands are freeport and charges very low taxes from citizens and companies. Many banks, as well as finance- and insurancecompanies have branches here. In 1987 17 400 companies were registered at Cayman Islands. This gives most of the revenues.
Tourism is another important source of incomes. In 1987 500 000 tourists visited the islands.
|RHistory:|N The islands was discovered by Columbus May 10th 1503. Spain surrendered the islands to Great Britain in 1734 and the first settlements were made at Grand Cayman in 1734. The other two islands were inhabited in 1833.
Cayman Islands were first administrated via Jamaica. When Jamaica was independent in 1962, Cayman Islands became a separate Crown colony.
